ON ABIDING WITH GOD

“I have set the Lord always before me” (Psalm 16:8)

My child, you call Me Lord—and you are right when you say it.  And I call you ‘friend,’ because you take to heart My words, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” Yes, I call you friend because you do what I have commanded you. (John 15:14-15)

But look at My people, hurrying to and fro, day in and day out. From high places I see My beloved as a billion little ants scurrying about.  Earth is a busy place. So many people, as they come and go, are unaware of My divine Presence. How I long guide and instruct each one in the way I have chosen—to counsel them with My loving eye upon them. So many do not recognize–I am near. (Philippians 4:5)

The psalmist paints a beautiful word picture: “Yet I am always with you; You hold me by the right hand. You guide me with Your counsel.”

From the beginning of time, even since the creation of the first man and woman, I intended intimacy with of My people. My desire and plan was to walk with My children, just like I did with Adam and Eve, in ‘cool of the day’. However, amidst the busyness and distractions, My children have lost sight of what Mary found: intimacy with Me…the one necessary thing.

Desire My nearness above all else; learn from the psalmist, “Whom have I in heaven but You, and on earth I desire nothing besides You.”

“I cannot imagine how religious persons can live satisfied without the practice of the presence of GOD. For my part I keep myself retired with Him in the depth of centre of my soul as much as I can; and while I am so with Him I fear nothing; but the least turning from Him is insupportable.” (Brother Lawrence)

“Our great tendency in this age is to increase our speed, to run faster, even in the Christian life. In the process our walk with God stays shallow, and our tank runs low on fumes. Intimacy offers a full tank of fuel that can only be found by pulling up closer to God, which requires necessary time…” (Charles Swindoll)
