On Wind, Waves and Faith

“…Underneath are His everlasting arms” (Deut. 33:27)

Shall I too leave the safety of the boat, Lord? Are You calling Your beloved to trust You–to walk upon the waves?  I look straight ahead and I see Your outstretched arms beckoning me, “Come.” You remain unfazed by the tumult, the wind, the roaring waters, so much peace, and so much tranquility. I see Your endearing smile and I know what it is like in Your presence – the warmth and comfort of Your embrace.  You are so close to me and yet the chasm is deep and wide–the waves are furious.

I look at those around me and they are all frantic, “It’s too much – we are all going to die!” They cry out, “Let’s turn back, we will never make it.”  I reason to myself, “No, The shoreline has nothing, just sand and a vast, empty desert.  God’s love, power and mercy are toward the waves – look, there He is, He is calling, ‘Walk by faith upon the waters.’”

Surely Lord, each of Your children have the winds and waves of life – all differing levels and degrees of faith in You. And yet, each child, in order to please You, must venture out, walking by faith upon the waters.

Into Your hands I cast my doubts, fears, apprehensions and the pride of man. In Your strength I will be lifted up, sustained and led to safety.  Every blast of wind and every angry wave of life are at Your command. I entrust my well-being to You.
